Definition and Usage

An element's padding-inline-start is the space from its border to its content, at the start in the inline direction.

The CSS padding-inline and padding-block properties are very similar to CSS properties padding-top, padding-bottom, padding-left and padding-right, but the padding-inline and padding-block properties are dependent on inline and block directions.

Note: The related CSS properties writing-mode and direction define inline direction. This affects where the start and end of an element is in the inline direction and the result of the padding-inline-start property. For pages in English, block direction is downward and inline direction is left to right.
